Medical assistants (MFA) are the organisational and medical backbone of doctors' practices. They handle scheduling, patient admission, assisting with examinations and treatments, as well as administrative tasks such as billing and documentation.

Depending on the practice's specialty, specialised tasks are added, such as blood draws, laboratory diagnostics, wound care or assisting with minor surgical procedures.

Training as a Medical Assistant

Training usually takes three years and is dual: practical training in a doctor's practice or clinic and theoretical training at vocational school. It concludes with an examination before the responsible medical association.
