Anaesthesia technologists (ATA) prepare anaesthesia, monitor patients during the procedure and support the recovery phase. They assist the anaesthesia team through every step of anaesthesia management.

Tasks include preparing medication and equipment, monitoring vital signs, and documenting the course of anaesthesia.

Training as an anaesthesia technologist

Training takes three years and combines theoretical instruction with practical placements in anaesthesia departments across various specialties. It concludes with a state examination.

Career paths for anaesthesia technologists

With growing experience, ATAs can specialise in areas such as paediatric anaesthesia or intensive care medicine. Working as a training supervisor or in quality management of the anaesthesia department is also possible.
